Under Law 192/2006, mediation is voluntary (mandatory pre-mediation was struck down by the Constitutional Court in 2013). Benefits: speed (days vs years), confidentiality, party-controlled outcome, reduced cost, 50% court fee refund. A mediation agreement endorsed by the court constitutes an enforceable title. Suitable for: contractual disputes, family property, commercial and labour disputes.
