What is the criminal record certificate?
The Romanian criminal record certificate (cazier judiciar) lists final criminal convictions, preventive measures and safety measures. It is issued free of charge by any police station within 3 working days, or online via ghișeul.ro for holders of a digital signature. Validity is typically 6 months.
Records are erased through legal rehabilitation (automatic, after 3 years for fines or sentences up to 2 years) or judicial rehabilitation (filed at the local court for more serious convictions). The certificate does not show pending criminal cases: those are visible on the court portal.
