House arrest confines the suspect to his home unless the court grants permission to leave. It is an alternative to pre-trial detention.

Definiţie

House arrest in Romania

House arrest (art. 218-222 CPP) is a custodial preventive measure carried out at the suspect's home rather than in prison. The person may not leave without judicial permission, except for medical emergencies and court appearances. Electronic monitoring may be ordered.

Maximum duration during investigation is 180 days. Wilful breach allows the judge to replace house arrest with pre-trial detention. The measure is appealable before a judge of rights and liberties at the superior court.
